FOR THE LOVE OF THE ARTS

17th OCTOBER @ THE YOUTH HUB

JOIN US IN CREATING AN ACCESSIBLE, NURTURING ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS OUR COMMUNITY TO COME TOGETHER AND PERFORM.

For The Love Of The Arts’ reduces as many barriers to performing as possible by providing an accessible space for groups of young people from different performing arts schools to come together and perform. As a central part of our kaupapa is reducing barriers, groups simply show up and perform – no costumes, hair or makeup, extra rehearsal times or cost to be involved.

To keep our young people in the arts, 40% of ticket proceeds will go towards funding scholarships for as many performers as possible to continue their chosen artform for another term.

We welcome all businesses/ community groups/ individuals who offer dance, drama, singing, or any other performing art to join us in celebrating and creating a nurturing space for our young people. We have space for each group involved to bring 1-2 performance items. We encourage everyone involved to bring students who may not get to perform often.

WHO CAN BE INVOLVED?

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?

Our Story

For The Love Of The Arts is brought to you by Sole, with support from The Youth Hub. ‘For The Love Of The Arts’ came to life as a result of our owner Ella’s passion and experience in both youth advocacy and performing arts.

Ella has a wealth of youth advocacy experience, acting as a UNICEF Aotearoa Youth Ambassador, speaking on parliamentary panels on the rights of the child, and sitting across several student advocacy organisations.

Her experience in the arts spans back to the age of 5, when she performed in her first production of Cats, and continues to the present where she teaches across multiple dance schools with students a variety of ages, abilities and backgrounds. Over the course of her career, Ella began to notice young people and their families, particularly those from low socioeconomic areas, often felt like opportunities in the performing arts were out of reach.

When Ella opened Sole, accessibility was right at the forefront. For The Love Of The Art’s extends that mission and encourages community-building across all of the amazing drama, dance and music schools we have in Christchurch.
